It was a pleasure to serve as DL for my panel at the 2023 AILA/GMS Annual Global Forum I Disney, Fl, USA.
-We explored the differences in features and processing requirements for such visas available in Brazil, UAE and Columbia:
-compared & contrasted with Norway, which does not provide such a visa stream currently but does recognize other remote work permit arrangements;
-discussed the PE ramifications, tax implications and social security obligations that may arise for employers, employees, freelancers, and independent contractors, as a result of stay associated with the digital nomad visa.
-last but not least, each of my distinguished panelists, Ingrid Barachini from Brazil, Rodrigo Tannus Serrano from Columbia, Haider Hussain from UAE and Lisa Gran from Norway, gave a pitch to the audience as to why they should explore their jurisdictions for remote work- from desert safaris in Dubai, gastronomy in Columbia, to skiing and Northern lights in Norway to the famed beaches of Brazil !!!
Finally, it has been a great experience to serve in the AILA GMS Ex-com these past two years in my positions of Vice Chair and Chair. I look forward to continuing to serve on AILA GMS excom with incoming Chair, William Hummel and Vice Chair, Chetal Patel, and a fabulous group of dedicated and committed global mobility professionals in the GMS steering committee, 2023-24.
